Marmaris Bay

Thousands of boats winter in Marmaris bay, afloat, and on the hard.

There is a large community of live-aboards, particularly at Yacht Marine and there is a radio net on VHF channel 69 each morning at 0900 which includes both the Yacht marine and Netsel marina liveaboards. Channel 69 is also used as a general calling frequency throughout the day. After calling your party, switch to another working frequency to continue your conversation. Treat channel 69 like channel 16 when in Marmaris bay. Note that the Marinas use channels 06 and 72 which should be avoided for general chatter.

The morning net includes such subjects as: Medical and emergency, Hellos and goodbyes, Taxi shares to the airports, Social events, Security and marina issues, and a free-for-all flee market called "Treasures from the bilge" where people can sell or swap old gear.

This is a beautiful cruising ground with numerous bays and anchorages.

Skopea Limani has so many beautiful bays. To to fully appreciate each area, it is neccesary to anchor or dock for a day or two in each bay and explore the facinating hills and coves and tombs that surround the anchorages.

Turkey (North West)

Fethiye

This interesting town is the birthplace of most of the gulets (pronounced goolet) that you see around the Turkish coast.

There are several gullet shipyards on the Western shore producing the large, pine hulled, old world, sailing charter yachts.

The town must have a lot of history and there is a large greek theater near the shore.

One can see some carved tombs up on the mountainside that look like they need to be explored.

Kastelorizo(Greek)

On an Island

Remember that night, white stairs in the moonlight
They walked here too, through empty playground,
this ghosts town

Children again on rusty swings getting higher
Sharing a dream on an island it felt right

We lay side by side between the moon and the tide
Mapping the stars for awhile

Let the night surround you
We're halfway to the stars
Ebb and flow, let it go
Feel the warmth beside you

Remember that night, the warmth and the laughter
Candles burn though the church was deserted
At dawn we went down through empty streets to the harbor
Dreamers may leave but they're here everafter

Let the night surround you
We're halfway to the stars
Ebb and flow, let it go
Feel the warmth beside you

St. Nicolis (Anchorage)

Lovely little anchorage.  Drop the hook in about 40 feet of calm clear water and stern tie to ancient ruins.  Enjoy fresh crapes every morning as the locals will come by in their traditional skiffs and serve them up hot to you liking.

Alanya Marina (Marina)

Dear Sailing Friends,

For two years we have been working hard to complete Alanya Marina and now we are almost there.

We plan to make the presentation of Alanya Marina a very happy occasion. The Marina will have all the services that will make it another popular place for the live-aboard, along with the favorable climate, Antalya Airport nearby and Alanya City being alive all year round.

The Marina will cater for the demands of International Sailors and the presentation plus your presence will provide all the information you need to help you decide to stay in Alanya for this coming winter or in the near future. There will be a 3 day party with music, dancing and lots to drink.

Lo of SY Mistral who is the organizer of the Vasco De Gama Rally from India to Turkey with 26 yachts will arrive in Alanya at the beginning of May and be part of the festivities.  The EMYR Rally will arrive on the 19th May with 70 boats sailing for Northern Cyprus early on 22nd May 2009.

During your stay there will be many activities to take part in, e.g. games, races, competitions and lots of fun events organized by a committee representing nearly all nationalities. As a taster…….. Every evening there will be a full band playing 60s music so bring your dancing shoes and start practicing the Tango, Twist, Cha Cha, Salsa and Samba

Each Boat will be provided with a number on arrival and on the last day there will be a lottery with many presents from the Marina including:-  4 free lift operations (up and down), 2 Gallons ( 5 liters) Antifouling paint for four boats, Hotel accommodation, 4 Dinners for two at good restaurants in Alanya City and many other prizes.

Oktay Yurtsever who has been Technical Manager at Kusadasi, Antalya and Kemer Marinas is now working at Alanya Marina as General Manager.  He brings 25 years experience. Savas Ayas is a young Manager and they will both do everything in their power to make your stay in Alanya Marina a happy one.

Some of you already know me, Hasan Kacmaz, very well, and more may have heard of me.  I have been involved in the development of 6 marinas along the Turkish coast and have been totally involved in the development of Alanya Marina, which I am operating for next 5 years and I believe that with the help of Oktay Yurtsever and Savaş Ayas, I can make this new marina a new Ideal Home for live-aboards.

I would like your presence and support for the New Alanya Marina Introduction beginning on 19th May 2009. I promise you a warm welcome and competitive price for the first two years.

I believe that many sailing friends will want to join us for the celebrations and we will need your arrival and departure times at Alanya Marina to reserve your berths. The Marina has a capacity of 287 berths and is big enough to house such a party but we need to be prepared.

If you cannot make it for the opening in May please visit us in Alanya in the near future.

Fair winds and safe sailing,

Hasan Kaçmaz

 NEW HOME FOR CRUISERS

The Yachting route in Turkey, starting from İstanbul and descending to the South along the Aegean Coast, advanced 70 miles towards to the east with the New Alanya Marina, located on the eastern coast of Antalya Gulf. After May 2009, many sailors, scrutinizing all their sailing equipments in Alanya Marina, after passing through Cape Anamur, could sail to Bozyazı, Aydıncık, Tasucu, Yesilovacık, Kumkuyu, Girne, Mersin, İskenderun, and also could easily visit Eastern Mediterranean Coast of our country as well as Coast of Girne in Northern Cyprus.

The Project of Alanya Marina, which will be fully operational by May 2009, has been commenced as a dream of Mufit Kaptanoglu, Numan Gumrukculer and Ali Dizdaroglu, a Group of Local Investors in Alanya, in 2007. While it was just an off-plan project in between the years 2007 and 2008, the construction has been commenced as of July 1st, 2008 and the Grand openning date for Alanya Marina is May 20th., 2009. The Project is presently in progress as planned.

There will be 287 berths availability with Med mooring type chains, and at every berth the power, water, TV and telephone connectivity will be available through the pedestals. Swimming –pool, tennis courts, yacht club, Fitness Center-SPA and etc. will be at the service of the marine berth holders. And other than these, by our 100tons capacity Travel Hoist, our professional and experienced technical team will also provide reliable service for your yacht’s all kinds of maintenance and repairs in our well-organized repair shops on the hard-stand. And also, there will be a Shopping Center, a Market and Chandlery to meet all the needs of our guests, during their time in the Marina.

Alanya is a cosmopolitan town with its approx. 120 thousand populations, where 15.000 of them are from almost 32 different countries especially from Germany, Ireland, UK, Nederland and Scandinavian countries, residing all year long. Alanya is attracting most of the people with its long beaches along the Mediterranean and as well as its historical and natural beauties. Alanya’s mild winter weather conditions will turn Alanya Marina to a popular marina for the sailors, who prefer quiet and secluded places during the winter seasons. Due to these facts, as Alanya Marina, we are well prepared to give the best service to our guests all year long, especially for the guests, planning to live in their yachts for longer periods.

We are eager to see you here, in Alanya, witnessing a New Marina’s birth and taking its place in Turkey, with the other marinas.

We wish you fair winds,
Hasan Kacmaz
General Coordinator

Levante Basin Rally 2008 (Services)

The crew of S/Y Resolute would strongly advise sailors against involvement with any future rallies organised by Bill and Jean on SOLEIL SANS FIN. It is our opinion that the above rally was badly organised, not value for money, prices rises were last minute with no justification, and we suspect the participants' interests are not the top of Bill and Jean's list. We had great bunch of sailors on this trip but the whole thing fell apart with lack of management skills of the leaders.

Transit log

When I checked in, in Datca, the agency that sold me my transit log also did all the clearing formalities and charged me about 85 euros.

They also tried to clear my cell phone through customs, as was required in 2006 to use a foreign phone in Turkey, but they were unable to do so. I ended up buying a new Turkish phone and SIM card which was about 129 Lira or 60 Euros and the SIM card I think about 15 Euro.

The Transit log seems to be more relaxed in Turkey and is only required when you check into marinas.

When I flew out from Marmaris for Christmas, Netsel Marina retained my Transit log and gave me a letter (in Turkish) to show to authorities if necessary. The transit log was given back to me on my return.
