A wonderful journey up the river past Sibenik to Skradin. A great town to visit and the entrance to the fabulous Krka Falls National Park.

Krka Falls National Park (Excursion)

Not to be missed, the Krka waterfalls and the park are extremely beautiful.

One catches a ferry boat from the dock in Skradin up to the lower falls. The ferry boat to the lower falls is included in the park entry of 80Kn which you pay when you disembark from the ferry at the bottom of the falls.

Take your bathing suits, as you may want to swim at the lower falls.

Watermills (Excursion)

Water mills that are still grind corn today.

A water driven cam also drives two hammers that are used for pulverising flax or cotton or something.

Ferry Dock (Transport)

Roski Slap and the Monastery (Excursion)

Walk further up the road from the watermills at the lower falls, about 25 minutes to the second ferry dock above the falls.

This is a four hour ferry trip that is very worthwhile and cost about 130Kn per person.

The ferry stops for about 20 minutes at a monastery on an island in the middle of the lake.

It then continues to the upper falls of Roski Slap.

You stop at Roski Slap for about 2 hours to see more watermills and other exciting things.

They serve a wonderful local lunch at Roski Slap consisting of homemade Dalmation ham, Cheese, Bread, Wine and tomatoes.

There are interesting water jet pools around the eating area where diners cool off by immersing themselves in these gushing wells at the bottom of the waterfalls.

On my second visit to Skradin, we engaged Ivan from the wine bar in Skradin to take us by road to Roski Slap for lunch. The "taxi" fare was about €90 and we had to pay park entry (80 Kn I think)as well as the cost of the lunch, but it was a lot of fun.

Ivan drove us there and waited while we had lunch. We asked him to join us but he declined.

Skradin (Anchorage)

The pilot says that this is a daytime only anchorage, but on both occasions that I visited Skradin in June 2007 I observed several boats (myself included) spend several days and nights anchored opposite the town.

Holding is excellent in mud, but make sure it is well in, as it can gust up in here during thunderstorms.
