"It was the old roman port where 100,000 people lived. There is a main roman road running through it - well preserved; an old necropolis outside the city, a 5 story building where the soldiers and firemen lived; the public baths; the main center; and a roman theater/colisseum. The city was at the mouth of the Tiberus river until it was abandoned due to malaria and disuse. Then the river changed course and it was silted in and abandoned. A lot of it was cannibalized for other buildings elsewhere. In about 1772 archeologists started to dig it out. This was where grain was stored - the grain was mostly from Egypt...."
