Flying in here on a 737 jet can be quite scary.

The plane flies in low on the water between the steep mountains, does a low speed, low altitude, U- turn, followed by skimming over a hilltop and dropping rapidly to the runway for a, sort of, controlled crash, and lots of reverse thrust to stop running off the end.

I am told that the smaller propellor plane is less scary, but because it is slower it takes much longer and you run the risk of a weather change between Anchorage and here, which can prevent landing and cause a return to Anchorage.
