Kos is an ancient city steeped in history and was a major center of trade and culture throughout the centuries.

It is the home of the father of medicine, Hippocrates, who is said to have taught here in the shade of a plane tree.

There are so many artifacts around the streets here that ancient Greek pillars and carvings almost seem to litter the area, in some cases used, casually to prop up an old fence.

Kos marina (Marina)

Kos harbour (Town Dock)

I anchored bow-to the eastern wall which was a good place to be during a storm that blew through.

During the storm, my small stern anchor that had recently been disrupted by a leaving vessel, started to drag. Luckily there was enough room on the dock for me to go alongside, using the anchor to help hold me off the pier.

Dock office (Marina)

The dock office is located in a portable building near the harbour entrance.

The harbour is administered by the new marina on the north coast.

I think it cost about €35 per night.

Very friendly and helpful staff.
